40 church text message examples you can send this week

Updated October 18, 2026 · 8 minute read

Good church texts are short, start with your church’s name, and give people one clear thing to know or do. Here are 40 you can adapt today, grouped by occasion. Swap in your own names, times and links.

Two habits make every one of these work better: start with your church’s name so people know who it is, and add “Reply STOP to opt out” to the first text someone receives and every so often after that.

Common questions

What should a church text message say?

Start with your church’s name, say one clear thing (a time change, an event, a welcome), include a link or a reply option if action is needed, and keep it under 160 characters when you can.

How long should a church text be?

One text segment is 160 standard characters. Shorter texts are read faster and cost less; most church texts fit in one segment.

Can churches send Bible verses by text?

Yes. Many churches send a short verse in the morning. Public-domain translations like the King James Version can be quoted freely; see our guide to daily verse texts.
