Easter text message ideas for churches: Holy Week, invitations and follow-up

Updated October 18, 2026 · 7 minute read

For many churches, Easter is the fullest Sunday of the year, and the weeks around it are when a short text does the most good. Here is a simple plan for Holy Week and Easter texting: what to send, when to send it, and examples you can copy.

Start three weeks out

People make Easter plans earlier than you might think, especially families with travel or relatives visiting. Send your first Easter text about three weeks before, and keep the whole season to five or six texts per person. That is more than a normal month, so say so once up front: “We’ll send a few extra texts this Holy Week.”

A simple calendar:

Holy Week schedule texts

Put the whole schedule in one text so people can find it again by scrolling. Use day names and times, and link to a page on your website with directions and childcare details.

Grace Community: Holy Week at Grace. Palm Sunday 9:00 & 11:00. Maundy Thursday communion 7:00 PM. Good Friday service 7:00 PM. Easter Sunday 7:00 (sunrise), 9:00 & 11:00. Details: grace.church/easter

Grace Community: Tomorrow is Good Friday. Join us at 7:00 PM for a quiet service of Scripture and song. Childcare for ages 0–5.

Grace Community: Palm Sunday is this week! Kids will lead the palm processional at both services. Come a few minutes early.

If your schedule is long, send the summary by text and keep the details on your website, rather than splitting one message into three or four segments.

Invitation texts people will forward

The best Easter invitation is still a personal one. Your text list is mostly members, so write the invitation so it is easy to forward to a friend or neighbor. Keep it short, include the times and the address, and give one reason to come.

Grace Community: Know someone who could use some hope this spring? Invite them to Easter at Grace: Sunday 9:00 & 11:00, 123 Main St. Forward this text!

Grace Community: Easter is two weeks away. Who is one person you could invite? Reply with their first name and we’ll pray for them this week.

Grace Community: Easter Sunday at Grace: worship, a message of hope, and an egg hunt for kids after each service. Everyone is welcome. grace.church/easter

The reply-with-a-name idea turns an announcement into a conversation. When someone replies, a real person should answer, even if it is just “Praying for Sam this week.”

A guest keyword for Easter weekend

Easter brings more first-time guests than almost any other Sunday, and most of them will not fill out a card. Put a keyword on the screen and in the bulletin: “New here? Text EASTER to (555) 010-0100.” Then set up an automatic welcome.

Grace Community: Happy Easter, and welcome! We’re so glad you joined us today. What’s your first name?

Grace Community: Thanks for coming today! Next Sunday we start a new series on hope. Services at 9:00 and 11:00. We’d love to see you again.

A keyword sign-up gives you clear permission to text, which matters; see church texting and the law. Keep Easter guests in their own group so you can follow up with them differently than members.

Easter Sunday morning

A short greeting on Easter morning is one of the texts people like most. Keep it to one line and a verse. Public-domain translations like the King James Version can be quoted freely.

Grace Community: He is risen! “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.” Matthew 28:6. See you at 9:00 or 11:00.

Grace Community: Happy Easter, {name}! “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

Send it after 8 AM. Sunrise-service folks are already up, but the rest of your list may not be, and carriers expect texts during reasonable hours.

Follow up with Easter guests

The week after Easter is where the real work happens. Guests who texted your keyword should get three or four short texts over two weeks, the same way you would follow up with any first-time visitor: a welcome, a personal note from a pastor, one next step, and a check-in.

Grace Community: Hi Maria, it’s Pastor Dan. It was great to have you with us on Easter. Is there anything we can pray for this week?

Grace Community: Hi Maria! This Sunday after the 11:00 service we host a Newcomers Lunch. Reply YES and we’ll save you a seat.

Grace Community: Hi Maria, we’d love to see you again this Sunday. Our new series on hope continues at 9:00 and 11:00.

Sign the pastor’s note with a real name. Offer one next step, not five. If a guest replies, answer the same day.

Thank your volunteers

Easter runs on volunteers: parking, greeters, kids ministry, musicians, the egg hunt crew. A thank-you text on Monday costs almost nothing and means a lot. Texts also make it easy to fill the extra shifts beforehand.

Grace Community: Thank you for serving this Easter, {name}. So many people were welcomed because of you.

Grace Community: Volunteers: the Easter weekend schedule is posted. Reply with the shift you can take: Sat setup, Sun 7:00, 9:00 or 11:00.

Planning it in an afternoon

Most of this can be written in one sitting: six or seven texts, a keyword, and an automatic welcome. With FaithTexting you can schedule the whole season ahead of time, set up the EASTER keyword, and let guest replies land in a shared inbox your team answers together. Your first 100 texts are free, and there is no monthly plan to size for your busiest Sunday.

Common questions

When should a church start sending Easter texts?

About three weeks before Easter for the first announcement, then the full Holy Week schedule two weeks out, a reminder the Saturday before, and guest follow-up the week after.

How many Easter texts is too many?

Five or six over the whole season is reasonable if you tell people extra texts are coming. Several texts in one week with no new information is what causes opt-outs.

How do we get Easter guests’ phone numbers?

Put a keyword on the screen and in the bulletin, such as “Text EASTER to our church number,” and let an automatic welcome reply. That gives you permission to text and a clean list of guests to follow up with.
